But, there was no way I would ever have any in my closet! My parents always said their money would never pay for “damaged” clothing. So, you learn to improvise. I would sit in class with a nail file and go to town. If I couldn’t buy them that way, I would find a way to make my own.
Now in 2022, holey jeans are still a thing. I may still have a couple pairs of holey jeans. But at almost 49 years old, and in my seventeenth year as a born again believer, I would rather get the holes in my jeans by actually being on my knees in prayer than by running an emery board across my leg. But I digress. As a believer, prayer is essential in our communication with the Father. Eyes closed, sitting in a seat, looking toward Heaven, on our knees at an altar, talking to Him during our commute, coming to the Lord and having an open conversation with Him doesn’t get any easier than that.
In times of joy and times of deep sorrow, in repentance, in praise. Being on our knees is more of a heart posture, not a required physical posture to approach the throne of the most high. Being on our knees in prayer lowers our expectations of what our prayers should look like and sound like. It is a humbling position to be in. It is a bowing down in reverence type of position, for me anyway.
In recent months our family has been through some stressful things. We have gone through some highs and lows, and even some big moments of joy. However, we have not sacrificed the time to thank the Lord in prayer in weakness or in praise. Thanking Him for His mercy in our struggles and expressing complete gratitude for the blessings.
Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. Isaiah 59:1
This verse leads me to understand that no matter my state of mind, my position in life, my current emotional state, the Lord is ready and waiting to reach me through my heart cries, my whispers of surrender and my overall willingness to let it all go at His feet.
The disciples, who were right alongside Jesus during His ministry cried out. During a storm while crossing the Sea of Galilee they cried out to Him who was able to speak into the storm and calm it. (Matthew 8:23-27) Surely He is able to speak into our messiness and make it clean. We just need to cry out to Him.
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
When we know that God is for us, we can battle anything we face. I find it hard pressed for much to get passed Him in our prayers, He is omnipresent afterall. Be ready to get some holes in your jeans as you begin to let the Lord bring it all to peace.
