Saturday, Marilyn and I had a wonderful day together. We chucked our to-do list and went for a drive to Utica. We targeted Utica and Velvet Ice Cream’s Old Mill…actually, as in everything Marilyn ever does, it had a purpose—we wanted to see how they had landscaped since we’re in the midst of completely redoing the landscape around our new/old home. (Tip: We both highly recommend the butter pecan and cashew on a waffle cone…it was incredible!)
Anyway…as we left the Old Mill we happened upon the Customer Appreciation Day Celebration at 64 Metals (a building supply company) in St. Louisville. There were antique tractors and cars so I naturally turned in. We were delighted to find that everything was free including a great lunch. While munching on brats we reveled to a live blue grass band. A wonderfully talented father and his four teenage sons were on stage playing and singing their hearts out. Three of the sons were the spittin’ image of their dad, with dark curly hair, strong chin and thin as a rail…but the fourth and youngest was fair and blond and without his father’s chiseled features… and then I looked to the back of the room and there sat mom at the CD table smiling and tapping her foot, mouthing every word they were singing. Spittin’ image of the fourth young man on stage!
I love to see family resemblances. It always warms my heart. It’s a personal pastime for me whenever I’m in a crowd. I couldn’t help but worship as they sang “The Orange Blossom Special,” realizing that we all share in our Heavenly Fathers features through His Son, Jesus Christ.
“God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much…We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created.” Colossians 1:13-15 (The Message)
Can you for a moment imagine how much that musical father must adore and value his sons as they share the same purposes together? Can you imagine how much your Heavenly Father adores and admires you when He looks at you and sees His Son?
Please join us this Sunday morning at Life Church, and we’ll celebrate a Father’s love. We’ll also meet six little children this Father’s Day as their families dedicate them to the Lord.
Until then,
Ron
